ANNA SCHAFER
Tell us a little bit about what you do? What are you excited for this year? Can you tell us about some of the projects you are working on at the moment?
I’m an actor, currently rehearsing School Girls, or, The African Mean Girls Play at The Lyric theatre in Hammersmith. We open next week and I can’t wait for everyone to see it! I’ve also got season 3 of The Witcher coming out at the end of the month so it’s going to be a busy (but joyful!) summer.
What is an opportunity you are grateful for in your career?
I got my first acting job at 15 in The Harry Potter films, it definitely changed my life. I remember being in Brent Cross shopping centre when I got the call and I couldn’t believe it, it really felt like a sliding doors moment and small crack in the wall to enter a world I never would have believed I could have been a part of.
Is there anyone who acted as a mentor to you along the way?
My friend Jessie Cave who I met on the Harry Potter films has always inspired me, she is so creative and productive and seems to use her 24 hours in the same way Beyonce does! She introduced me to her agents which completely change the course of my career. I’ll always be indebted to her for that kindness - I think it can be easy to stock-pile opportunity in this industry as they can feel so scarce but there is absolutely space at the table for everyone and I hope to be able to emulate her generosity of spirit as I move forward in my own career.
How do you approach getting dressed every day?
Getting dressed has always been a transformational act for me, the ability to put on a costume for the mood, the season or the essence of the day. I dress to communicate and connect - I’m telling you who I am or at the very least, who I’m trying to be.
What are you wearing here and what made you gravitate towards this look from HUISHAN ZHANG?
I love the colour and the cape draping detail of this gown, I think the belt gives some flattering structure too. I feel powerful and free in this dress and most importantly I feel like me.
