Name: Frances Aaternir

City: Brooklyn, New York

Intro: I was born and grew up in Darwin in northern Australia. After graduating from university, I left Australia and have spent the past six and a half years based between London and New York working as a model. At the beginning of 2020 I settled in Brooklyn. Although the fashion business has slowed down a lot, I am fortunate enough to still be working. The difference is the travel aspect of my job has all but disappeared, unsurprisingly.

What are the lessons you’ve learnt in lock-down: When life was constantly busy with work, travel, and social engagements, it was so easy to lose sight of the bigger picture. I want to live a life of abundance and it is easy to lose track and to think that means more money, work, travel, and possessions. It really means more love, laughter, time with family and friends, creativity, cooking, dancing, listening to music and being in nature.

What do you miss most / what are you looking forward to: I miss my friends and family the most, but I also miss my acting classes terribly! I am looking forward to going home to Australia and a European summer.

What have you learned about yourself this year: Not so much something that I have learned about myself, but how I have evolved. For me personally, 2020 has been a call to action on the issues of racial justice and climate change. I think it was far too easy to tune out when life was fast paced. We all have to take responsibility. I am committed to being a conscious and active citizen.

Any projects you have been working on that you would like to talk about? I did a creative writing course this year and have started working on a project that I’m really excited about. I’m in it for the long haul though, writing is hard!

Thoughts for the new year: To keep moving forward, I think this year has taught us that we can make all the plans in the world and we just don’t know what is around the corner. It’s important to be able to adapt and keep going.

What are you wearing and why were you drawn to it: Normally I would choose a dress but I was drawn to this fun two-piece. I love that it is super ladylike and chic but the shorts make it feel cool and more laidback.

Frances wears: The Naomi Jacket and Jillian Shorts in red and ivory tweed.
